With years of experience and a seat on the Colton City Council, Isaac Suchil is running for re-election for his current position on the Colton City Council District 6. Suchil was first elected in 2004 to represent District 6 and was re-elected to serve a second term in December 2012. In January of 2016, the Colton City Council appointed him to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. A native to Colton, he is the third generation of his family to live in Colton and has worked more than 30 years as a deputy with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. Aside from his experience and work as a deputy, Suchil has also served as the Colton Planning Commissioner and the Colton Park & Recreation Commissioner. Suchil has received numerous endorsements that include Josie Gonzalez, San Bernardino County Supervisor; Richard DeLaRosa, Colton Mayor; and current City council members David Toro, Frank Navarro and Dierdre Bennett. "In the four years that we have been working together for the city, we have come to the point where we all have shared the same vision, passion for the community, and we are striving to bring a quality of life to Colton that hasn't been there before," Navarro said. Some of the things Navarro said they are working together includes bringing in new businesses, starting new residential housing and providing new projects on the streets and local freeways that surround the community,i.e. the Roque Ranch Housing project, the Mt. Vernon I-215 interchange, the Mt. Vernon I-10 interchange and the Pepper Avenue interchange. During his time in office, Suchil said he remained dedicated to improving Colton by reducing utility rates and identifying alternative funding sources for the betterment of Colton’s youth programs and sports fields. He said he supports lower electricity rates for the city residents and businesses. As a long-time enforcement professional, Suchil said he will continue to support investment in the police, fire departments and maintain the safety for the residents. He said, "I also support the construction of a new park along South La Cadena and the beautification of Mount Vernon and La Cadena medians. He has worked to install traffic signals both at South La Cadena Avenue and La Loma Avenue to be completed in early 2017. “It is an honor serving our community,” he said. “I enjoy the opportunity to work on behalf of Colton residents, businesses and future generations. Together, we have seen many quality projects brought to our city, improvements made to our neighborhoods while being a good steward of public funds.” If elected, some of the many goals he wants to accomplish is to install community pride by enhancing and beautifying city parks, roadways, public facilities, ensure city services, and provide programs and development projects which benefit the quality of life for citizens plus ensure transparency between the community and the government. “I understand that I work for the residents of Colton,” he said. “I ask that voters support me in the great work that must be done. Together, we can continue to realize the great potential of our city of Colton. I bring needed experience to our city government and I welcome your comments and will promptly respond to all calls and emails. As a proven, experienced and fiscally minded councilmember I respectfully ask for the votes of Colton residents on Nov. 8."
