On December 17, 2019, the Clerk of the Board for the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors administered the Oath of Office to San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCoFD) Fire Chief/Fire Warden Dan Munsey. Munsey was appointed on November 20, 2019 by County Chief Executive Officer Gary McBride, with concurrence from the Board of Supervisors. In addition, Munsey now serves as Fire Warden for the County of San Bernardino, including the full powers of a Peace Officer. The county fire warden aids in enforcing state laws and regulations on state land within the jurisdiction of the county.

Munsey began his career with SBCoFD in 1995 as a paid-call firefighter. He became a full-time firefighter/paramedic in 1998, where he was assigned to Lake Arrowhead. He has worked in every division of County Fire, promoting to captain in 2004, battalion chief in 2008, and assistant chief in March 2014. Munsey is the current president of the Operations Section of the California Fire Chiefs Association and president of the Hi-Desert Water District Board of Directors. He has been active for a decade in the Rotary Club of San Bernardino, Victorville, and Yucca Valley.

“I’m very humbled to be your Fire Chief,” stated Munsey after taking the Oath of Office. “You’re going to find me very approachable. I’m very much involved in the community. I like to have a good complexity of thought, as we try to solve our problems to make them simpler.”
