San Bernardino County Students To Receive RIMS AVID Scholarship

INLAND EMPIRE>> On Monday, May 1, AVID students representing schools in both Riverside and San Bernardino Counties received scholarships.

As per AVID.org, AVID, or Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a non-profit program designed to help students and educators close the achievement gap. The program helps prepare students for college and postsecondary activities, while teaching skills for academic sucess, fostering student teacher relationships, creating peer groups, and providing a sense of personal achievement. 

The Inland Empire boasts over 6,000 senior students as being part of the AVID program. Of these, thirty-four students were given college scholarships. Fourteen of those students are seniors from the San Bernardino and Riverside school districts.

Students recognized included Omar Arellano of Summit High School in Fontana Unified School District; Itzel Carrillo Hernandez, Jennifer Escorza and Juan Silva Ruiz of Fontana High in Fontana Unified; Sahira Gonzalez of Pacific High in San Bernardino City Unified; Tania Lima of San Bernardino High in San Bernardino City Unified; Angela Martin Arias and Sierra Martinez of Kaiser High in Fontana Unified; Mariela Perez and Karla Zermeno of Rialto High in Rialto Unified; Natalie Perez of Colton High in Colton Joint Unified; Nathan Rivas of Oak Hills High in Hesperia Unified; Anthony Salazar-Masias of Chaffey High in Chaffey Joint Union; Carlos Soriano of Citrus Valley High in Redlands Unified.
