The longest surviving military leader Lt. General Harry Goldsworthy (Ret.), a man who has survived both 1918 and 2019 pandemics, was honored with a memorable 107th birthday celebration on Saturday, April 3 at Westmont Village in Riverside California. The community came together as Goldsworthy showed that a sense of humor may, in fact, be the secret to a long life.

At 11 am sharp forty or so members of The Patriots motorcycle group paraded through the gated community until reaching the street end at Goldsworthy’s home. The ceremonies opened with the presentation of colors by the Blue Eagle Total Force Honor Guard from March Air Reserve Base followed by the national anthem.

Michelle Morales, Regional Director Lifestyle Programs, Westmont Living welcomed the crowd and introduced several dignitaries who presented Lt. General Goldsworthy with numerous proclamations.  Accolades came from March Air Reserve Base, March Field Air Museum, California State Senator Richard Roth, March Joint Powers Authority, Riverside Chamber of Commerce, Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce, Riverside County Supervisor Jeff Hewitt, City of Riverside Mayor Patricia Lock-Dawson and Councilmember Chuck Conder. Lt. General Goldsworthy took to the podium with a heartwarming and humorous speech. The Patriots closed out the ceremony with a flag salute, the Happy Birthday song and an American Flag Plaque presentation. A five aircraft flyover ended the event. And, Lt. Gen. Goldsworthy took a ride on one of the motorcycles.

Goldsworthy has resided at Westmont Village (Formerly Air Force Village West) since 1990. He was an avid golfer who now prefers to watch golf on TV.  Westmont Village is located 17050 Arnold Drive, Riverside, CA 92518.
