Grand Terrace High School's Coach Johnny Vazquez had nothing but good things to say about 15-year-old basketball star, Skyler Lewis. Vasquez describes Lewis as "very mature, unselfish and humble for being only 15 years old, and her teammates love her and respect her." Following in the footsteps of her mom and dad, Lewis started playing basketball 6 years ago. Her support system is made up of her parents, who also happen to be her biggest fans. She shares that her greatest inspiration is her mother who, she says, taught her everything she knows. She's always there to help and guide her when she needs it and you can always find her cheering in the stands at every game. Even before Lewis started playing as the Grand Terrace Titan's Center 2 years ago, Lewis has been playing Travel Basketball with Corona Force on the weekends for the past 3 years, going on 4. “My favorite part of the game is defense,” she says. A typical day for Skyler consists of school, practice, and homework. If that's not enough, she's also on the volleyball team, track, and competes in the long and high jump; all while maintaining a 4.2 grade point average. Though she doesn’t have much free time, when she does sit still, Lewis enjoys drawing, indulging in a good book, and of course, sleeping when she can. Lewis is expected to graduate next spring at the young age of 16. She hopes to stay close to home and to attend University of California, Riverside on a basketball scholarship. After college, she plans on traveling overseas to continue her basketball career before she returns to the United States for medical school. "This is a girl whom our school and community should be very proud of as are we," shares her coach, Johnny Vazquez.
