COLTON>> Emmy-winning Meteorologist Crystal Egger visited students at Grant Elementary School on Wednesday, Feb. 8 to give a presentation about her career while also teaching the students about weather. Egger was invited to the school to give a presentation to the third-grade classes on weather since the students were currently learning about weather in their classes. Egger taught students about the weather patterns and how the weather affects their environment. She also shared with students her journey to becoming an Emmy-winning meteorologist and how important her education was to her career with a focus on science and math. “Be excited about science and math. You never know what you’re going to be down the road,” Egger said. “I didn’t know I was going to study meteorology but I did like science and math, so there’s a lot of ways you can learn something and most importantly be kind.” Egger also encouraged the students to participate in her presentation by asking questions and allowing students to answer in order to receive a prize from her. Egger stated that as a mother she understands the importance of children becoming engaged in learning and that she is fortunate to be able to return to her hometown and educate children on the weather and tell them about her journey through education. To her, she said this opportunity is just the “icing on the cake” for her hard work. “It was amazing to have somebody from the news give her time for our students and she is a great role model for our female students,” said Kathy Jackson, Principal of Grant Elementary School.
