Mayor's Weekly Message: Happy Independence Day, Moreno Valley!

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

This week, we celebrated our nation’s 247th birthday. National holidays have always been important to me, and this holiday – Independence Day – is one of the most meaningful to me and my family.

We come together as a community to support the individuals and organizations marching in our parade, enjoy our family barbeques, and watch our fireworks show light up the night sky.

But it’s important to remember that as Moreno Valley residents, we are part of something much bigger. We live in a great city; a city that is part of a beautiful state; and a state that is part of an amazing, free country.

The precious freedoms we enjoy are borne from the tenacity and fearlessness of our founding fathers and every other American that has fought to maintain those freedoms for nearly 250 years. I am grateful and indebted to every one of them for their sacrifices.

I believe that freedom, hope, and opportunity are intertwined. And, as I reflect on the meaning of today’s celebrations, I can’t help but be proud of who we are, what we’ve accomplished, and the future we are building together.

Happy Independence Day, Moreno Valley!
