The County of Riverside introduced the Women's Inspiration Awards in alignment with International Women's Day in 2021 to honor the exceptional contributions of women who prioritize community welfare through innovation, efforts to effect social and economic change, and unwavering commitment to improving their communities. Throughout February, in the spirit of this global celebration, nominations were solicited across all districts for the Women's Inspiration Awards 2024 Woman of the Year, reflecting the county's diverse and dynamic female leaders.

Each district's supervisor had the challenging task of selecting an awardee from an impressive pool of nominees. Second District Supervisor Karen Spiegel, chose Michelle Sheen as this year's honoree, recognizing her unparalleled impact and dedication to the community.

Michelle Sheen has distinguished herself as an exemplary professional and community servant, significantly marking her influence in Riverside County. Her dedication to public service shone brightly through her significant involvement with the Riverside Overdose Data to Action Organization (RODA) as a Randall Lewis Health Policy Fellow.

Her leadership as the first American-born director of the Eastvale Chinese American Association Library (ECAA) has been instrumental in promoting Chinese culture and traditions, fostering community engagement, supporting local businesses, and mentoring the youth in collaboration with the Eastvale Chamber of Commerce. At just 25, Michelle embodies the spirit of service, kindness, and commitment to diversity and inclusion, making her a true inspiration and role model for all.

"Michelle represents the very essence of what the 2024 Woman of the Year Awards seek to honor," says Supervisor Spiegel. "Her remarkable contributions to our community go beyond her roles and titles but speak to her deep commitment to fostering inclusivity, supporting the arts, and promoting cultural understanding. Michelle's achievements, both locally and on the global stage, serve as a beacon of inspiration for all, especially young women, demonstrating what can be achieved through dedication, hard work and a heartfelt desire to make a difference."
