The Moreno Valley College (MVC) Upward Bound Math and Science Program recognized 62 students from Vista del Lago following their completion of the program’s six-week summer experience. Upward Bound is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and sponsored by MVC in partnership with Moreno Valley Unified.

The program focuses on helping potential first-generation college attendees develop skills in a variety of STEAM subjects, such as chemistry, ecology, biology, and physics. Students also work on concepts like problem solving and teamwork. The program runs year-round, but Thursday’s celebration was the culmination of six weeks of work in the summer program.

Over the course of the summer, students participated in various workshops, unique field experiences, career connecting and classes. The celebration was a chance for students to share some of their inspirational stories of learning and newfound knowledge with parents, the community, and district officials.

District officials who attended included Superintendent Dr. Martinrex Kedziora, Board Member Jesús M. Holguín, Chief Academic Officer Maribel Mattox, and Vista del Lago Principal, Eric Swanson. We are proud of these accomplished students who are taking steps toward finishing high school and pursuing a successful postsecondary education.
