Train Testing Update

By San Bernardino County Transport Authority

02/14/2022 at 04:52 PM

On Wednesday, February 16 during daytime hours, a Metrolink train will travel to the five stations throughout the 9-mile Arrow corridor to allow crews to take clearance measurements in preparation for testing (scheduled to begin next week). This will cause minimal delay at the intersections/crossings.

Train testing throughout the 9-mile Arrow corridor is scheduled to begin on February 22 and will continue until service starts.

Metrolink and Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) trains will be used to test the tracks, signals at the crossings, and communication systems.

Testing will occur weekdays during daytime hours, however, to accommodate slower speed testing and avoid longer delays for motorists, there will be two days of overnight testing from 7:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. with both the Metrolink trains (scheduled for February) and the DMUs (scheduled for March).

The Metrolink trains being tested will vary, you can expect to see a locomotive with up to six cars at one time.

During testing, horns (two long, one short, one long) and bells will sound throughout the 9-mile corridor.

Safety personnel (flaggers) will assist with motorists and pedestrians at the intersections/crossings being tested:

City of San Bernardino: E Street, D Street, S. Arrowhead Avenue, Sierra Way, Mill Street, Central Avenue, W. Orange Show Road, Waterman Avenue, Tippecanoe Avenue, Richardson Street, Mountain View Avenue

City of Redlands: California Street, Nevada Street, Alabama Street, Colton Avenue, Tennessee Street, New York Street, Texas Street, Eureka Street, Orange Street, 6th Street, 7th Street, 9th Street, Church Street, University Street

There will be intermittent flashing red traffic signals from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at local grade crossings.

Roadway and pedestrian gates are also being tested at the rail crossings weekdays 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through March.

Intermittent daytime (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) lane closures will occur at all local grade crossings between E Street and Church Street. Through travel/two-way travel will remain at all times at each location.
