Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) has received funding support from the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to help advance three infrastructure projects that will improve water supply reliability in the region.

The funding was backed by Riverside County Fifth District Supervisor Yxstain Gutierrez, who represents the San Jacinto Valley, where all three projects are located.

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding will help support the following EMWD projects:

  • San Jacinto Groundwater Treatment Facility ($3 million): EMWD will be constructing a new groundwater treatment facility at Hewitt Street and Evans Street in San Jacinto. This will be the final purification facility as part of EMWD’s groundwater replenishment program.
  • Well, 37 Facility and Discharge Pipeline ($1.5 million): The project will construct a new well facility and pipeline that will help provide additional water supply reliability in the region.
  • Mission Canyon I Pipeline ($255,000): The project will replace an existing pipeline that has been prone to leaks in the unincorporated area east of Hemet. The pipeline connects to a water storage tank.

“As the new County Supervisor for this area, everyone should have access to clean, safe, and affordable water. With this partnership and funding, we are aiming to accomplish this goal by improving the quality of life to our Hemet and San Jacinto residents,” said Supervisor Gutierrez.

ARPA funds may be used to support investments in water, sewer or broadband infrastructure. EMWD has worked closely with the County of Riverside to establish funding needs and coordinate funding agreements for the projects. EMWD has previously received ARPA funding for projects in the County’s First and Third Districts totaling more than $16 million.

“We appreciate the support of Supervisor Gutierrez and the entire Board of Supervisors for helping to advance funding for these projects,” EMWD General Manager Joe Mouawad said. “ARPA funding allows us to continue advancing water and sewer infrastructure while reducing the financial burden to our current and future customers.”
