Lightning, Shark Attacks, and a Winning Ticket

Prince and Gurparneet Sandhu sold the $638,000 golden ticket in this year’s big Powerball lottery jackpot. The highly-anticipated Powerball jackpot reached $1.50 billion before finally being drawn. Together they own and operate the 7-11 on Redlands Boulevard and Alabama Street in Redlands, although Sandhu shares that his wife is the boss. They have been at the location since 2009 and have sold winners before, scratchers, and other types of lotteries, but nothing this large before. “Feels good. Especially for the customers and the community. Somebody got rich in the neighborhood.” Sandhu said about selling the winning ticket. He went on to say the winner is a regular customer, and bought the ticket Jan. 13. They missed the big winner by only one number, and hope to sell the ticket for the big pot next time. The odds of winning the grand prize is 1 in 292,201,338.00. When asked if Sandhu had any lucky advice for future ticket buyers he said, “Play responsibly, it only takes one ticket.” The winner of the ticket's identity has not been released.
