Redlands Bowl Performing Arts (RBPA) is pleased to announce that Disney’s Beauty and the Beast has been selected as the musical for the 95th Season of the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival.  The show will be directed by Wayne Scott, whose previous directing credits at the Redlands Bowl include The Sound of MusicMary Poppins, Annie and The Wizard of Oz. He also directed Disney’sBeauty and the Beast at the Redlands Bowl in 2006.The show will run Thursday, July 26-Sunday, July 29, 2018 with a public dress rehearsal on Tuesday, July 24, 2018.

“RBPA is proud to present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast for only the second time in our history. Like the Redlands Bowl, the ‘tale as old as time’ is classic and timeless. We are thrilled to have Wayne Scott at the helm again as producer/director. He will bring magic to the Bowl!” said RBPA Executive Director Beverly Noerr.

“It was a joyous experience to help present Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast’ at Redlands Bowl in 2006.  Now, with new technical advances and an amazing array of local talent, we have an opportunity to revisit this timeless classic and present a castle full of magical surprises. We’ll be pulling out all the stops next summer to create an unforgettable entertainment experience,” said Wayne Scott.

Broadway’s modern classic, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, is an international sensation that has played to over 35 million people worldwide in 13 countries. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

“It is always a great honor and a career highlight to work with Redlands Bowl Performing Arts.  Everyone associated with this outstanding organization is dedicated to excellence.  The organization’s spirit of service to the community through the arts is exciting and contagious.  I look forward to another stellar season from RBPA.  With Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, it will be a privilege to join a talented team in presenting a musical treat for the Inland Empire,” continued Scott.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

“We are thrilled Wayne Scott will once again bring Beauty and the Beast to life on the Redlands Bowl stage. It’s hard to believe it’s been over 10 years since it’s last run here and we are truly excited to bring Disney’s acclaimed Broadway production to a whole new generation of Bowl attendees!” said Valerie Peister, RBPA Program Director.
