As a teenager 40 years ago, Tom Schibusch founded the High Desert’s March of Dimes “March for Babies” fundraiser. Despite having cerebral palsy, undergoing 13 surgeries, and struggling to walk, Schibusch has not only organized teams to participate in the fundraiser, he has also walked himself. “Some can give a lot. Some can give a little, but everybody can give something to make life better and help happy, health babies,” Schibusch said. On Tuesday, April 6, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors honored Schibusch and Desert Valley Hospital CEO Fred Hunter for their work with the March of Dimes. “Tom has been an amazing man in our community,” Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Robert Lovingood said. “Tom is an example of someone who has pushed beyond and served our community well and been an inspiration to many.” Lovingood also praised Hunter and Desert Valley Hospital for their work in the High Desert and recognized Hunter for his hard work, rising from his position as a nurse to chief executive officer of Desert Valley Hospital. The March of Dimes High Desert March for Babies 2016 is set for Saturday, April 16, 2016. Check-in is at 8 a.m. The walk begins at 9 a.m. at Victor Valley College, 18422 Bear Valley Road, Victorville, CA 92395. To register or donate, visit www.MarchForBabies.org/TomsTeam.
