Val Verde High School and Perris High School students were recently able to see first-hand how the skills learned in school can relate to the workplace through the City of Perris’ first ever Job Shadow Day, held on Feb. 2. Local businesses such as the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Lowes, Sizzler, Westech College, Stretch Forming Corporation, CR&R Recycling & Refuse Services, Bank of America, Hanes Brand Inc., Inland Boat Center, Marinello School of Beauty, and ResCare Workforce Services opened up their doors to provide students with hands-on work place experience. “It is important for students to job shadow for them to have the opportunity to connect with our local businesses and community resources and maybe find a career path they would like to pursue one day,” said James Macaraeg, Val Verde High School counselor. This event was spearheaded by Perris Councilwoman Tonya Burke who said, “It is my goal to provide as many resources as possible to the youth of this area so they can be career ready.” After the student’s hands-on experiences, they were brought back to the Bob Glass Gymnasium for a small career expo where students were given the opportunities to learn about the job opportunities available in the US Army, Navy, and Marines.
