REDLANDS >> Former Major League Baseball star Jay Johnstone, a former outfielder and pinch-hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Angeles, taught batting and bunting on May 3 to the 11 players on the Bronco-league Giants. Johnstone, 69, came to Redlands after meeting Giants manager John Berry at a baseball card signing event in Los Angeles earlier this year. Johnstone called Berry in April and said he was willing to come to Redlands to teach batting to his team. Johnstone signed baseball cards and autographs for all 11 players as well as a few of their family members who also play baseball.
