A Classic Story Warming Hearts All Over Again

As summer comes to an end gather your friends and family together and have one last adventure watching the newest film starring the iconic yellow bear.

“Christopher Robin” is a 2018 movie directed by Marc Forster. It stars Ewan McGregor as the titular character and Jim Cummings who voices two of our favorite characters, the role of the honey-loving bear Winnie the Pooh and the joyful bouncing tiger, Tigger. The film was released in the United States on August 3, 2018.

The official trailer was released in May, igniting everyone’s excitement to see one of their favorite childhood stories come to the big screen. The film includes some of your favorite characters like Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo and Owl in CGI form.

The movie starts off with a young Christopher Robin who is about to go to boarding school and must sadly leave his friends behind. The beginning of the movie tugs on your heartstrings and some may cry seeing Christopher bid farewell to his best friend Pooh. At my film showing, all sorts of people shed some tears in the beginning. It became more heartfelt as in certain parts of the film you can hear the melody of the classic Winnie the Pooh theme song playing in the background. You catch it here and there but will sure make you sing it during the film.

The storyline will make you happy inside and bring a smile to your face, but it is mainly due to the Hundred Acre Wood gang. They sounded and acted like they did from the old television shows and that is what drives people to see this film. Christopher Robin is the title, but it’s Pooh and his friends that really make it worthwhile.

It is indeed a family friendly film with many touching and heartbreaking moments, but sometimes it can cater to adults more than the children because of its underlying message. The audience can see how Christopher changed from a playful kid to a serious hardworking adult. There is nothing wrong with that as everyone says we must grow up some time but seeing the moments when adult Christopher interacted with Pooh was sometimes heartbreaking. He is no longer playful while Pooh is just the same silly old bear that Christopher knew so long ago.  As the film continues though, things change and Christopher becomes his old self again.

Christopher Robin as an adult can hit close to home. He is shown to focus more on work than family when eventually, he loses sight of what really matters. It takes being reunited with his childhood friends to show him what he has been missing and what life is about. No matter what we should not lose who we are. We may grow into adults, but we should always have a playful side and always realize what is truly important: family and friends.

“Christopher Robin” has many morals to its story which is why this film is amazing. Everyone gets to feel something while watching. To have a film affect not only children but adults too is worth watching. You did not have to watch Winnie the Pooh television shows or movies in order to know who Pooh is. He is an iconic character with a memorable tale. This film is truly one of a kind. So go with your loved ones and buy your ticket, bring a jar of honey and get ready to feel that classic Winnie the Pooh magic.
