Community Day Coming to Veteran Park

COLTON >> Every fourth Saturday of the month, Better Living & Wellness Outreach holds its Community in Unity, an event that brings the community together for an afternoon filled with entertainment and useful resources. Not only is it a chance to have fun with the community, but to get help from it as well.

The event will also feature personal trainer, Robert Briones, of Fit Fearless Training. The program will teach children exercises that they can do at home with their families. Briones hopes to teach the children that working out being healthy can be just as cool as playing video games or watching T.V. Briones also hopes that his demonstration will help encourage parents to work out as well as children.

Resources that will be made available to the community consist of hygiene kits, a mobile health clinic, job information, and free clothing. Attendees also have the chance to enjoy live music, raffles, prizes, and free food.

The event is being put on by Pastor Braxton and his wife, Kathy Braxton. “I’m expecting the community to connect with the valuable resources that are available at CIU Outreach. We want to make an impact in those individuals lives. We don’t want to give them a hand out, but a hand up, with life skills, education, truth about drugs, and how people fall into drugs.”

The event will also house several informational booths, including one put on by Kathy Braxton.

Titled “Sick and Tired”  Braxton plans to explain to women about their recovery home for women, which helps women in the local community who are suffering from addition or dependency. The program is a year long, and will provide educational skills, parenting classes and a 12 step biblical program.

“It starts in our own backyard,” said Braxton. “We would like to make that impact in Colton because as you drive around in certain areas, you can see the need-from the homeless to the runaway teenagers to the families that are struggling on a paycheck to paycheck basis. Not just the down and out, but the up and out as well.”

The church of Fire and Christ in Grand Terrace, are currently helping to support the event, which will serve tacos,  beverages, chips and candy.

All are welcome.

In addition to games and prizes for the children, there will also be a toy giveaway and free bags of groceries. People will also have the opportunity to sign up for free dental exams at the resource building in Veterans park.

Unicare, a health clinic that has been established in the Colton area last year, will also be present. They currently have a clinic on 308 N. La Cadena in Colton and offer resources for dental, vision, medical, behavior and health. They will giving free medical exams, along with Central City, a mobile unit that comes with two registered nurses.

The event will be held at Veteran Park located at 290 O St. Colton, CA 92324 from 10:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. For more information,  contact Outreach Coordinator Pastor John Braxton at (951) 400-3298.
