An unsuspecting Loma Linda teen scared off a daytime burglar in her home on Tuesday, July 7, San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials said in a news release. Just before noon that day, Loma Linda deputies responded to the home on the 11000 block of Vollmer Drive in Loma Linda in response to a report of a residential burglary in progress. At the home, they found a 14-year-old female victim and resident of the home, who told deputies that the suspect entered the home through an unsecured door at the rear of the garage. The suspect, described as an unknown black male adult, entered into the kitchen of the residence through a door attaching the garage to the interior of the home, deputies said. That was where he was met by the unsuspecting 14-year-old victim. He immediately turned and fled from the residence on foot while the victim called her parents "in a state of panic," and her parents contacted the police. Officials said they arrived on scene within minutes of the call and upon conducting an extensive area check for the suspect, were unable to locate him. During the investigation, deputies said they learned a suspicious vehicle had been seen in the area just prior to the burglary. The vehicle was described as a 1990s Honda Civic or Accord, dark in color with possible front hood damage. The suspect was described as being in his mid-20s, about 6-foot-1-inches tall, thin and wearing dark clothing. Local law enforcement officials are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact investigators at Sheriff’s Central Station.
