Bicycle Health and Safety Expo Zooms into Town

Ride Yourself Fit, The Redlands Police Department and Redlands Community Hospital will present the 6th Annual Children’s Bicycle Health and Safety Expo Saturday, May 30, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Redlands Mall parking lot, near the intersection of West Citrus Avenue and Eureka Street. The free event will include bicycle safety and course instruction information for all ages, health and safety resources and various craft booths. Music, food, crafts and free bicycle drawings for all ages will also be held during the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring their bicycles and helmets as they will be given the opportunity to practice their safety skills in a bicycle safety course. Some participating agencies include Inland Empire Health Plan, Cyclery USA, Yucaipa Bike Shop, Redlands Fire Department, Redlands Police Motor and Bicycle Officers will be present in uniform and teaching children bicycle safety. Bicycle licenses, registration and fingerprinting will also be provided by Redlands Police Department volunteers. Children riding the safety course MUST wear approved helmets and closed toed shoes. Free helmets are provided by Inland Empire Health Plan for those children who need them. Ride Yourself Fit members will assist families during the ride. All non-RYF members (adults and the parent/ guardian of each child) will be required to sign a consent and waiver before each ride. Children who do have a bicycle will be able to borrow one for the event courtesy of Redlands Bicycle BBQ. Ride Yourself Fit is a family-friendly cycling club which is open to all. The club is focused on fun, fitness and fellowship. Beginning to advanced riders will find what they need to start or improve their riding on Saturday morning rides. You will also find other events such as Walk Yourself Fit and Eat Yourself Fit groups. Family rides are the first Sunday of every month, all are welcome. Ride Yourself Fit also sponsors monthly Family Rides on the first Sunday of each month. Check the club’s website at http://rideyourselffit.org. These rides are free.
