MORENO VALLEY>> With Christmas just around the corner, the Moreno Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Moreno Valley Ayres Hotel & Spa are collecting gifts for the Moreno Valley Police Department "Operation Holiday Cheer." Operation Holiday Cheer includes programs designed to brighten the lives of children and families that are experiencing an economically challenging time. As a part of the operation, eligible children have the opportunity to go on a shopping trip with a Moreno Valley Police Department Officer to pick out their own presents. To continue the holiday excitement, Santa Claus and officer helpers will go through select neighborhoods in Moreno Valley helping to create a holiday atmosphere by providing candy and stuffed toys. The department also hosts a holiday party for 45 qualified families each year at the Conference and Recreation Center to help spread the holiday spirit. The party includes a catered meal, live entertainment, games, photos with Santa and gifts. To help make the operation possible, the community is encouraged to donate a gift or gift card at a value of $20 or more. To those who donate, they will receive a voucher to attend a 2017 Wake-Up Moreno Valley Meeting for Free. Wake-Up Moreno Valley features community updates, city council reports, education, service and non-profit organization information and a special guest speaker. Community members can bring the gift or gift card to the Chamber office or Connections After Hours Thursday, Dec. 1. Donations will also be accepted at the Moreno Valley Police Department, located at 22850 San Juan De Los Lagos. For more information, contact the Community Services Unit at the Moreno Valley Police Department at (951)486-6716.
