Inland Center Mall officially kicked off their new solar power initiative, which included the recent installation of over 4,676 solar panels, on Saturday, April 26 at noon with a special “Wire Cutting” Ceremony presided over by Councilmen John Valdivia, Judi Penman CEO and President of the San Bernardino Area Chamber of Commerce, Arun Parmar, Senior Property Manager and Terri Relf, Senior Marketing Manager. The Chamber of Commerce also presented the mall with a special award for its commitment to Solar and Energy Sustainability. The new solar installation is yielding an estimated 1,000 KW capacity of clean energy – enough power for approximately 110 homes. Inland Center Mall participates in a cardboard recycling program that recycles over 120 tons of cardboard each year and hosts an annual e-waste recycling event which, this year was held the same weekend, on April 25-26. The mall is also installing an EV Charging station for customers with electric vehicles. Hundreds of families attended the Solar Event which in addition to the “Wire Cutting” Ceremony, included a kid’s Fun In The Sun Panasonic Solar Presentation where over 100 kids in attendance took home a FREE Sun-Powered Flower. Over 250 children decorated a “Solar Inspired” Recyclable Tote Bag and took the bag to Molina Healthcare for a free pair of kid’s star sunglasses. In addition, 13 local elementary schools and the community joined together to donate 56,446 plastic bottles at Guest Services to be recycled and all monies will be donated to the Childhood Cancer Foundation. The event also featured an e-waste event in the parking lot which collected thousands of pounds of e-waste to be safely disposed for a cleaner planet. "Inland Center is committed to creating long-term value by improving our natural resource efficiency, and operating and developing the center in a sustainable and environmentally sound manner,” said Arun Parmar, Senior Property Manager of the Inland Center Mall. “Installing clean energy technology at Inland Center also aligns with our commitments to our retailers, our partners and the community.” Inland Center’s solar power initiative is part of parent company Macerich’s fully-integrated sustainability program. Established in 2008, Macerich’s sustainability program focuses on energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable real estate development and redevelopment, waste management and green operational practices and procurement. Macerich strives to conduct its business in a socially responsible manner that balances considerations of environmental and social issues while also creating long-term value.
