Patients at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH) were treated to an afternoon of books and arts and crafts at the annual “Spring Into Reading,” a patient diversionary event sponsored by the Big Hearts for Little Hearts Loma Linda Guild. “This is part of the Loma Linda Guild’s mission to enhance the patient experience for our precious children at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital,” said Eloise Habekost co-founder of the Loma Linda Guild. On Monday, April 20, kids of all ages were welcomed to the lobby level of the hospital where a library of books and craft tables were set up. Kids were able to take a book of their choosing to keep. Tables were strewn with various craft items like stickers, chicken wire, markers, crayons, foam visors and much more to use their creativity to the fullest. One patient, Ken Ferguson, 6, from Corona, excitedly made the trip down from his patient room to enjoy the activities. “He loves to color, but reading is one of his favorite things to do,” said his mom, Carla. She added that although in first grade, her son is reading at a third grade level. Goodie bags of books and craft materials were taken up to the rooms of patients who were unable to make it down to the lobby for the event.
