50 Years of Service in GT

I'm Nanci Sherman Austin, my husband Milton and three children bought a home in the early 60's in Grand Terrace. I joined the Grand Terrace Woman's Club in 1968. When my husband Milton passed away in 1988, I went to work. I then re-married and re-located to Wisconsin. I continued to pay my dues and support the club. When I returned in 2003 I stepped right back into the club I loved.

The club was organized in 1908 and Federated in 1925. We just celebrated our 110th anniversary! The Grand Terrace Woman's Club has worked hard for our community for over 100 years. Much of what we do goes unseen.

Here are some of our amazing accomplishments: Blue Dots Project - raised monies to place blue dots in the streets indicating fire hydrant locations for firemen. Saved the old school bell which now rings at Grand Terrace Elementary School. Placed a stop sign at DeBerry St. and Mount Vernon. Changed local law placing utilities underground in all homes built after 1966. These are just a few of the many things we have done for the City of Grand Terrace.

This year I celebrated my 50 years with the Grand Terrace Woman's Club and the General Federation of Women's Club. I received a 50 year pin and a certification award. I am currently serving as 2nd Vice President of the club. In which my duties are membership and ads for our book.

The club meets every third Wednesday of the month at the Colton Woman's Club at 495 N. 7th St. Colton at 11am. Interested new members are welcome to the meetings and do not have to live in Grand Terrace.
