Morrison Park Walking Brings Safety for Moreno Elementary Students

Walking to school is good for students’ health, and reduces traffic and air pollution at the same time. And one of the easiest ways for students to stay safe when walking to school is to walk in groups. With all that in mind, MVUSD, along with Community Now and the City of Moreno Valley, dedicated a new walking trail at Morrison Park that will be used for a “Walking School Bus” for Moreno Elementary students. “Sometimes, the simplest ideas are the best ones,” explained Shor Denny, CEO of the non-profit Community Now, which coordinates the Safe Routes to School program. “The Walking School Bus is simply an escorted group of students. Parents can drop off their children at the park and know that they’ll be with Safe Routes volunteers and other students and will get to school safely.” It will also reduce traffic in front of the school. The Morrison Park Walking School Bus will be available each Tuesday. More days could be added with more volunteer participation in the Safe Routes to School program. Parents and other adults interested in volunteering can contact Safe Routes to School at 951-333-9965.
