Colton’s bringing its own Olympics games to the city next month. Businesses and local organizations are invited to participate in an Olympic-style competition that will take place in nine events over three days, beginning next month, from March 19 through March 21. The Community Games, as they are called, were “designed to promote teamwork, foster community spirit, encourage company and organizational pride, and support health and wellness – all through healthy competition,” according to a release from the Community Services Department. The event will kick off March 19 with an opening ceremony and will end March 21 with an official closing ceremony at 7 p.m. at the Gonzales Center. Tournament play will be Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21. Events will include 3-on-3 basketball, dominoes, scrabble, chalk art, tug-o-war, raft races and more. Activities are scheduled after normal business hours and on weekends. Businesses, churches, service groups or any organization are encouraged to put together a team of at least 10 adults ages 18 and over to participate. Team entry fees are $200 per team, with the entry fee including participation in all events. A team captain meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 26 at the Gonzales Center, 670 Colton Ave. in Colton, at 6 p.m. Registration ends Wednesday, Feb. 18. You may pick up a registration packet at the Gonzales Center. Call the Gonzales Center at 909-370-6153 or email ColtonRec@ci.colton.ca.us for more information.
