Two high school juniors were struck by a vehicle in the crosswalk, suffering moderate injuries, as they walked from the south campus to the north campus of Redlands High School Wednesday morning.
The female students were in the crosswalk at Citrus Avenue and Church Street at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15. As they crossed the street, a man driving a Toyota pickup was attempting to make a left turn from southbound Church onto eastbound Citrus.
The driver reported that his view was obstructed by fogging on his windshield and the sun hitting the windshield, and he didn’t see the teens before striking them with his vehicle, knocking both of them to the ground.
Redlands Fire Department paramedics responded and treated the students on scene. One was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The other was taken to the hospital by a parent. Both of their injuries were reported to be moderate and not life-threatening.
The driver was determined not to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and there are no charges at this time.
