Firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 1500 block of Cameo Drive at about 7 p.m. Sunday, April 20th. One firefighter was hospitalized for heat exhaustion. No other injuries were reported. When firefighters arrived they found a single-story residence with heavy fire involvement throughout. A second alarm fire assignment was requested and dispatched due to the amount of fire involvement and size of the residence. An aggressive attack was initiated by firefighters to contain the fire, which was brought under control in 30 minutes. As firefighters were battling the flames and heavy smoke conditions, a pet cat was located within the burning residence and removed. Firefighters worked to revive the cat, but resuscitative efforts were unsuccessful. One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion while battling the flames and transported to Redlands Community Hospital for treatment. The injured firefighter has since been released. Redlands Firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Loma Linda and San Bernardino City. A total of 21 firefighters, including five engine companies, one truck, one paramedic squad and a battalion chief responded. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The loss is estimated at $300,000.
