Hawkins Signs Letter of Intent

SAN BERNARDINO >> San Bernardino Valley College Men's Basketball sophomore forward JaCardo Hawkins (Gonzales (LA) East Ascension) has signed a letter of intent with Tennessee Tech University. Hawkins was a First-Team All Foothill Conference selection, starting 27 regular season games for SBVC while averaging 13.2 points per game, finishing first in the state in shooting percentage with 65.4 percent. He ranked third in the state with 254 rebounds and 42 blocks. Hawkins’ best game of the season came against Glendale, AZ where he scored 24 points, had 11 rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Under the tutelage of eighth-year coach Quincy Brewer, No. 2 seeded SBVC Men's Basketball ended the 2015-2016 season claiming their 15th conference championship, the Foothill Conference Coach of the Year award and the MVP award. Brewer was awarded for the fifth time as Coach of the Year finishing the regular season, ranked fourth in the state with a 28-3 overall record and a 9-1 conference record, wrapping up the regular season winning 17 of their final 18 games. They were rewarded with the 2 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs. Tennessee Tech University is located in Cookeville, Tennessee which is 80 miles east of Nashville and 45 miles south of the Kentucky-Tennessee border. The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles play in Hooper Eblen Center and the team is coached by 5th year head coach, Steve Payne. In the 2015-16 season, the Golden Eagles went 11-5 in conference play, finishing fourth in their division, with an overall record of 19-12, concluding the season in opening round of the Vegas 16 Tournament. Tennessee Tech is in the Ohio Valley Conference of NCAA Division One.
