Guests gathered at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Moreno Valley on Sunday April 6th, to listen to classical works performed by, The Moreno Valley Master Chorale & Orchestra who presented the concert, “Music of the Masters” featuring soloists, Camelia Voin, Maribel Ruiz-Velasco and Steven Hinde. The program opened with violinist, Zlata Grekov performing the piece, Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in a minor by Bach. The next soloist was soprano, Camelia Voin who performed works from Mozart and Vivaldi. After each piece, the audience applauded and the master of ceremonies, Tim Caszatt told the audience that the concert was in dedication to, “a special fan who usually sits in the front, but was unable to make it that afternoon”, Helena Gheorghe, mother of Dr. Viorel Gheorghe. Marcus Van Hala has been a board member of the Moreno Valley Master Chorale for 27 years and said he, “would love to have a performing arts center and attract audiences and that for many years, has been building a talent pool, and the people who help put together the concert are world class musicians.” He stated, “Classical music is so empowering and the best part is when kids get involved.” The Moreno Valley Master Chorale was founded by the late Dr. Rudy Sun who had his PhD in music education. Sun passed away in 2001. He was also responsible for creating the Community Band and the Cultural Arts Foundation. Van Hala said, “He had a great vision for arts in the community.” James Jackson, who is the Tenor Emeritus for the Moreno Valley Master Chorale, was there with two friends; Phyllis Wilson and Earline Mitchell, all who enjoyed the concert. They said, “I thought it was gorgeous and classy. We’re so fortunate to have a choral and a lot of work goes into the choral.” Van Hala shared, “there are so many talented people in our city and our doors are open for them to participate.”
