Weldon Boone Runs to Represent Council’s District 4

Weldon Boone is running with the hopes of representing Moreno Valley’s District 4 and has said he considers the city’s residents his top priority. Boone, who graduated high school in June and is now attending Riverside City College at the Moreno Valley campus, said he felt his age—Boone is 18 years old—will be a benefit to the council. “At 18 years old I have the energy and tenacity, and I want to make a difference in Moreno Valley. As a councilmember, your first priority is to be a representative to the people of Moreno Valley, and, in my case, District 4,” Boone said. “My first goal if elected is to be a proper voice for the people of Moreno Valley,” Boone said. “At 18 years old and at a different place in my life compared to fellow candidates, I will bring a different insight to the council.” Boone explained his goals will include government transparency, which he explained he plans to provide by bringing residents “into the conversation and hear(ing) what they have to say.” “Governments are to be of the people, by the people and for the people,” Boone said. If elected, Boone also said he would work to continue the city’s current Emerging Leaders Council, in which city students aged 18 to 25 work and educate themselves in regards to local and regional government policies and activities, with the goal of developing strong leadership skills. “Letting students get involved in government at a young age will be a benefit to our city,” Boone said. The city’s success is what Boone explained he wants to see most. “The best way to make any city succeed and to make it better is to make sure that the residents who live in and care the most about their city are active and involved,” Boone said. Other District 4 candidates include Gwendolyn Cross, Yxstian Gutierrez, Jaime Moreno, Lori Nickel, Robin Wetmore and Raymond Sawyerr.
