Dr. Lorraine Perez, a seasoned educator and vocal advocate for students and families, is the new assistant superintendent of Student Services for the San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD).

In July, the Board of Education held a reception to formally introduce her to the District and community. Dr. Perez was appointed assistant superintendent of Student Services when Dr. Rachel Monárrez vacated the position after being appointed assistant superintendent of Continuous Improvement, a new cabinet position.

As head of Student Services, Dr. Perez will oversee Student Wellness and Support Services, Youth Services, Family Engagement, the Inland Career Education Center, specialized programs, including those serving homeless and foster children, the before- and after-school programs, and other departments.

“I feel fortunate to be part of a great administrative team. I look forward to continuing the culture of excellence already in place,” Perez said. “And, I’m truly excited to further our District’s mission to make hope happen for our students and families.”

Perez has a doctorate in education from USC. She started her career in education in 2002 as a teacher in the Baldwin Park Unified School District, where she also served as principal of a dual-language school.
