Three San Bernardino Public Library branches are continuing to offer expanded services as the Feldheym Central Library prepares to reopen. The Feldheym library has been closed due to a re-carpeting project, and the first floor was reopened to the public on Jan. 22. The library's second floor, which includes 24 free public computers in the Cosand Computer Learning Center and literacy and other services offered in the Jack Hill Lifelong Learning Center, will likely remain closed to the public for a few additional days after the opening of the first floor due to library IT staff re-wiring computers and moving equipment back to its original place. Library Director Ed Erjavek said, “The SBPL Board of Trustees knows how much the residents of San Bernardino value their libraries and asked staff to continue to provide the best public service we can during this project. We appreciate the patience of our patrons.” Feldehym Central Library celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and until this project retained its original carpeting. Almost all of the carpet in the 64,000-square-foot facility is to be replaced in this project, which was funded mostly by an insurance settlement following a 2013 flood and a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). “This project will be a major upgrade for Feldheym,” Erjavek said. “We’d like to thank the Mayor and Common Council, City Manager Allen Parker, Public Works Director Tony Frossard, Brandon Mims of the City Manager’s office, Rick Moreno of City Facilities, the SBPL Board of Trustees and everyone else who has supported and contributed to this much-needed project. ” Expanded branch service days and hours during Felheym's closure are: * Dorothy Ingram Branch Library, 1505 W. Highland Ave.: Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday 2 to 6 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; closed Monday and Sunday. * Howard M. Rowe Branch Library, 108 E. Marshall Blvd.: Monday and Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed Friday and Sunday. * Paul Villaseñor Branch Library, 525 N. Mt. Vernon Ave: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; closed Friday and Sunday. Materials checked out may be returned to the book drop at Feldheym when it is closed, or any of the branch libraries.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
