The San Bernardino Police Department conducted a DUI Saturation Patrol from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, July 10. During this event 43 vehicles were stopped, 11 people were given field sobriety tests, three of which were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Twenty-seven citations were issued for miscellaneous traffic violations, six citations were issued to drivers operating vehicles with a suspended or revoked drivers license, five citations were issued to unlicensed drivers and 11 vehicles were impounded. This program is an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes. DUI saturation patrols are conducted to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving while identifying offenders and getting them off of the street. The San Bernardino Police Department believes motorists can be deterred from drinking and driving through the education and enforcement activities conducted during DUI saturation patrols. Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and/or drugs – Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe. Report Drunk Drivers, Call 911. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
