Redlands police are working to identify a suspect who held up a Subway restaurant two weeks ago on Saturday, Jan. 31. According to police officials the suspect entered the store located at 1619 W. Lugonia Ave. just before 11 p.m. and ordered a sandwich. Police say as the clerk rang up his order the suspect allegedly produced a note demanding money and no weapon was seen. According to local law enforcement, the clerk handed over cash from the register and the suspect took the money, the note and the sandwich and left the store in an undetermined direction. Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male in his early 30s to mid-40s, between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-9, weighing between 170 and 180 pounds. He was unshaven with pockmarks on his face. Gray hair was seen on the sides where his hair came out from the faded blue or light grey baseball cap he wore. The cap had what appears to be a “Batman” insignia. The Riverside Sheriff’s Department is investigating a similar robbery that occurred at a Subway restaurant located on Haun Road in Menifee at 10:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015. Detectives have released surveillance video from the Redlands robbery in an effort to identify the suspect. The video may be viewed on the Redlands Police Department’s YouTube Channel at http://youtu.be/IFW0kGOFD2A. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Redlands Police Detective Leslie Martinez at 909-335-4777 or by email at lmartinez@redlandspolice.org or Redlands Police Dispatch at 909-798-7681.
