The City of San Bernardino has announced that a veterans service center will be a new addition to the Phoenix East Community Center at Speicher Memorial Park this coming fall. The partnership between the San Bernardino City Parks department and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) San Bernardino Chapter 12, spearheaded by Michael Baca, are bringing this project to the city. The city and the DAV also operate the Veterans Exploration Garden at the park. City officials in a public Facebook post on July 20 said, "This veteran center will provide a variety of services including access to computers, training and programs." As part of a fundraising program, memorial bricks that will be featured in the garden may also be purchased. The memorial bricks feature the name, rank, branch and service years of each veteran, along with the respective military branch logo. The public post gave thanks to Frank Cook, Michael Baca, Steve Rudkin and David McCammack, "for your service and dedication to our veterans!" The veterans service center will be located at 2157 Pacific Street, in Speicher Park across from the San Bernardino Soccer Complex.
