Sheriff's Central Station Recruites Citizen Volunteers

SAN BERNARDINO>> The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Central Station, which serves the communities of Grand Terrace, Loma Linda and the County areas of San Bernardino, is currently recruiting volunteers over the age or 18 to join their Citizens on Patrol unit. The Citizen Patrol program is a team of highly trained volunteers who serve as the eyes and ears for law enforcement. The program is designed for the volunteers who have an interest in helping the community and law enforcement. A Citizen Patrol volunteer will attend a 40-hour training academy covering topics such as crime prevention, driver awareness, traffic control, Neighborhood Watch, radio procedures, CPR and First Aid and media relations. "The Citizens on Patrol give back to our communities and help our deputies when we are shorthanded," said Sylvia Beasley, Sheriff's Service Specialist. "It's been the best part of my job to be the coordinator for the Central Station's COP unit." The Citizens on Patrol volunteer program currently has 50 members serving Grand Terrace, Loma Linda and the unincorporated areas of Colton and San Bernardino. "We love citizens with extra time on their hands to join the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's family," Beasley said. To qualify for the program, a volunteer must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a good driving record, no felony convictions, be a U.S. citizen and pass a background investigation.
