Annual Rummage Sale Brings Community and Pets Together

Members of the Grand Terrace community and their pets gathered together from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. this past Saturday Nov. 15 for the 6th Annual Giant Community Rummage Sale. The sale was hosted by members of the Grand Terrace Dog Park committee to raise continued funds for the Dog Park. The sale included an array of vendors such as Origami Owl, Scentsy, pet products, crafts, Avon makeup and Tupperware. Attendees were also able to enjoy food options such as tacos from Cruzin' Tacos or fresh kettle corn, shaved ice, and funnel cakes. According to Chairmen of the Dog Park Committee, Mike Auld, the sale is held twice a year once in the spring and fall. Mike Auld and his wife Bev have been participating in the event and fundraising efforts for five years now. Auld added, “My wife and I joined the foundation once we retired. We wanted to give back to the community.” Mike and Bev Auld hosted the information booth as well as a photo booth for pets and their owners who attended. Auld feels the dog park has much to offer the community. “It’s a great opportunity to improve the quality of life in the city of Grand Terrace, for citizens and the pets,” he said. Many of the vendors were also pet owners and ecstatic to support the dog park’s cause. Vendors such as Wendy Womack enjoyed coming out and selling for a good cause, Womack added, “I encourage others to come support this cause because dog parks are a great way to get your animals out to socialize and for good exercise.” Some vendors saw additional benefits the dog park could bring to the community. Vendor, Rosa Casteneda, felt the addition of the park would create a safe environment for pets and aid in “keeping pets off the streets.” Vendor, Gina Albright, felt the addition of the dog park to the Grand Terrace community will not only benefit pets, but the owners as well, Albright stated, “It will get people out and allow you to get to know your neighbors.” Attendees were encouraged to bring their pets and strolled them around the sale. Resident Nelson Rozo and his dog Lola were first time attendees. Rozo enjoyed the sale adding, “It was awesome! Everyone is so nice and thankful people could donate. We are all doggie lovers here.” Rozo and Lola were among many who are excited for the benefits the dog park will bring. Rozo stated, “It will keep the community strong for pet owners. It’s an awesome place to take your pet and socialize them with others. They need a place where with other pets they can play and have fun.” In all members of the community and their pets successfully came together for the Annual sale benefiting the dog park cause.
