MORENO VALLEY >> Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District (RivCoParks) is celebrating back-to-back victories for 2016, with four major awards recently announced from four separate organizations for the Box Springs Mountain Reserve Comprehensive Trails Master Plan. The plan includes an inventory and assessment of current trails within the reserve, possible linkages to surrounding trail systems, proposed new trails and linkages to Moreno Valley, Riverside and Highgrove. “The plan was only made possible through a unique partnership that brought everyone together with a common goal: how to develop a comprehensive and sustainable system,” said Scott Bangle, RivCoParks’ general manager. Partners included the Friends of Riverside Hills, City of Riverside, Riverside County Transportation Commission and the City of Moreno Valley. Awards received include the 2016 Merit Planning Award from the State of California’s Trails and Greenways Conference, the American Society of Landscape Architects and the American Planning Association. The District also received notification that the plan will receive the Planning Initiative Award at the National Association of County Park and Recreation Officials’ Annual Conference to be held in Long Beach, California in July.
