On Aug. 13th at California State University, San Bernardino President Dr. Tomás D. Morales was named in the Latino Leaders Magazine “The 2015 101 Most Influential Latinos” list, in the July/August issue. Morales is in his fourth year as president at CSUSB and was named to the list consisting of the some of the nation’s most successful and influential Latino business, community, and higher education leaders. His selection was based on his position in the top level of leadership in U.S. higher education, serving as the chair of the Board of Governors of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), immediate past chair of the Board of Directors of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), and as a member of the Board of the American Council on Education (ACE). Morales is also chair of the TIAA-CREF Hispanic Advisory Board. Within the higher education sector, HACU President/CEO Antonio R. Flores and Diana Natalicio, president at The University of Texas at El Paso were also named to the Latinos Leaders list. Morales has served in higher education leadership positions at College of Staten Island (CUNY), Cal Poly Pomona, City College of New York (CUNY), and State University of New York (SUNY). Having served as an educator and administrative leader in higher education for more than 40 years, he is one of the few higher education administrators in the United States who has held senior administrative positions at the three largest public university systems in the nation: The California State University, The State University of New York, and The City University of New York. Morales was selected as the fourth president of CSUSB in May 2012. Previously, he was president of the College of Staten Island (CUNY), from 2007 through 2012. From 2001 to 2007, Morales served in various capacities at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, including provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, vice president for Student Affairs, and professor of education. While at Cal Poly Pomona, he established the Kellogg Honors College, realigned the division of Academic Affairs and played a key role in completing a $23 million expansion of the Bronco Student Center. Prior to joining Pomona, Morales was vice president for Student Affairs and dean of Students at The City College of New York/CUNY from 1994 to 2001. From 1992 to 1994, Morales was assistant dean of the School of Education at the State University of New York (SUNY), New Paltz. He holds a B.A. in history from SUNY, New Paltz, and earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in educational administration and policy studies from SUNY, Albany.
