As we have shared before, our Moreno Valley Unified School District CyberPatriot teams have received a lot of accolades over the past year. Recently, one of MVUSD’s cybersecurity program teachers, Donna Woods, from Canyon Springs High School, testified before the State Assembly Joint Oversight Committee for a hearing titled "Cybersecurity Education and the Needs of the Workforce."

The hearing focused on the demand for cybersecurity education and employees in related careers. Moreno Valley Unified offers cybersecurity classes through a CTE pathway Canyon Springs, Moreno Valley and Valley View High Schools.

In addition to her position at MVUSD, Woods is a California Cyberhub Community Manager. "The Cyberhub offers an opportunity for everyone to work together on creating the best learning experience for our students," Woods said at the hearing. "We are trying to create a better path for our students moving forward."

Along with programs like the MVUSD Cyber Security Pathway, the California higher education system and support from the California State Assembly, the state hopes to better prepare students for future cybersecurity careers.

The National CyberPatriot Competition begins tomorrow with a special kick-off celebration at Moreno Valley College. Teams from MVUSD will join 5,548 other teams nationwide and over 1,000 in California for the first round of competition. MVUSD Cyber Elite Teams are looking forward to another outstanding year of competition and learning.
