More Than a Nursing Degree: Loma Linda Opens New Pathways for the Healthcare Workforce

For someone already working long shifts as a registered nurse, returning to school can seem difficult to fit between patient care, family responsibilities and everyday life. Loma Linda University School of Nursing is working to make that next step more accessible.

On August 19, the School of Nursing will host information sessions for prospective students interested in its RN-to-BS and Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs. The RN-to-BS session begins at noon, followed by the BS in Nursing session at 1 p.m.

The programs represent different entry points into a profession that remains central to healthcare throughout the Inland Empire. Loma Linda's traditional BS program combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning and clinical placements across partner healthcare facilities. The university also offers an online RN-to-BS pathway specifically designed for registered nurses who already hold associate degrees and want to continue their education while working.

Flexibility is an important part of that pathway. The RN-to-BS program can be completed through full-time or part-time study, with coursework offered online. Graduates may pursue opportunities in areas including leadership, education, management, public health and school nursing.

Loma Linda has also developed concurrent enrollment partnerships with several California community colleges, including San Bernardino Valley College, Chaffey College, Victor Valley College and College of the Desert. These partnerships allow eligible associate-degree nursing students to begin working toward their bachelor's degree while completing their ADN education.

For Loma Linda, educating nurses is about more than awarding degrees. Each graduate represents another healthcare professional prepared to enter hospitals, clinics, schools and community settings where skilled nursing care can directly affect patients and families.

The classrooms may be in Loma Linda, but the impact of the nurses trained there can ultimately reach communities throughout California and far beyond.
