Six players named to 2013 California Community College Soccer Coaches Association (CCCSCA) all-Scholar Athlete Team. This is an award that players receive when they maintain a 3.30 GPA or above with at least 24 units. Under the tutelage of tenth-year coach Kristin Hauge, SBVC Women's Soccer won their fifth Foothill Conference Championship and made a seventh straight playoff appearance. The team finished the season ranked 10th in the nation by the NSCAA, and were ranked third in Southern California and sixth in the state. Ending the year with a 17-3-2 overall record and a 9-1 conference record. They were rewarded with a #3 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs. As a reward for their fifth Conference Championship, the team was bestowed with four first team All-Conference honors and four second team All-Conference honors. Sophomore midfielder Steffany De La Torre (Desert Hot Springs H.S.) was also named to the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Junior College Scholar All-America Team. De La Torre was one of 11 community college athletes across the nation honored with this award and she is the first SBVC Women’s Soccer player to receive this honor. De La Torre was named second team All-Foothill Conference this past fall and tied for first in the Conference with 11 assists, including four game winning goals. De La Torre was also named to the 2012 honorable mention All-Foothill Conference. Freshman defender Bianca Castro (La Quinta) had a modest offensive record with eight shots taken and two assists, but anchored a stingy defense, shutting out Cerro Coso twice in a row at 10-0 then at 17-0. Freshmen midfielder Emily Feenstra (Hudsonville, MI Unity Christian) scored a hat trick at home versus Victor Valley on October 22, with SBVC winning the game 7-1. Over the course of the season Feenstra scored eight goals and made three assists. Freshmen goal keeper Sarah Gonzales (San Bernardino H.S.) started in three games over the season, playing 383 minutes. She had sixteen saves, one win, and one shutout. Freshmen defender Valarie Aparicio (Yucaipa H.S.) and freshmen midfielder Julissa Magana (Bloomington H.S.) were also both named to the Scholar-Athlete Team.
