Children’s Network Shines A Light on Unsung Heroes

LOMA LINDA>> San Bernardino County Children’s Network will honor 16 people and organizations for their exceptional service and commitment to the overall well-being of at-risk children at their 19th Shine-a-Light on Child Abuse Awards Breakfast on Thursday April 6, 2017 at 7:30 a.m. in the Valencia Room at the National Orange Show located at 690 S. Arrowhead Ave, Gate 9 in San Bernardino. Children’s Network Officer Kathy Turnbull calls the honorees “unsung heroes who are doing work to which much of the general public says ‘I could never do that job.’” San Bernardino County Children’s Network works to improve the quality of life for "children at risk" who because of behavior, abuse, neglect, medical needs, educational assessment, and/or detrimental daily living situations are eligible for services from one or more of the member agencies of the Children's Policy Council. Award recipients will be recognized in a variety of categories with the highest honor awarded to the Children’s Network Lifetime Advocate. Award recipients include: Michael Markel, Lifetime Advocate, Principal Assistant County Counsel, Office of the County Counsel; Golden Eagle Moving Service, Business; Faith Powell, Community Partner; The Open Door, Community Partner, Family Assistance Program; Frank Kelly, Education, CEO of No Drugs America Association, Inc.; Susan Culbertson, Education, Title IV-E Program Coordinator of California State University, San Bernardino; Jermaine and Amber Wright, Foster Parents; Robin Ferguson, Health/Medical, Early Start Program Manager, Inland Regional Center; Michelle Coit, Legal, Probations Corrections Officer of San Bernardino County Probation Department; Stacey Chapdelaine, Legal, Deputy Sheriff of San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department; David Foy, Legal, Deputy District Attorney of San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office; Michelle Gilleece, Legal, Attorney of Friedman of Cazares and Gilleece, LLP; Jennifer Karns, San Bernardino County Human Services, Social Service Practitioner; San Bernardino County Children and Family Services; Darren Guentert of San Bernardino County Human Services, Social Service Practitioner of San Bernardino County Children and Family Services; Nikole Wilkins, Volunteer, Eligibility Worker III, Transitional Assistance Department; as well as Jeff Luther, Children and Family Services, Posthumous Honoree.
