SAN BERNARDINO >> On April 15, 2016 Time for Change Foundation will recognize Alaina Mathews as Humanitarian of the Year at the upcoming 13th Annual Star Studded Awards Gala. A humanitarian is someone involved in improving people's lives and reducing human suffering. Someone possessing a moral of kindness, benevolence and sympathy extended to all human beings. The Humanitarian Award was created to recognize outstanding individuals in our community who dedicate their time to fighting indifference, intolerance and injustice and whose accomplishments are consistent with the goals and mission of Time for Change Foundation. Alaina is the daughter of Rena & James Ramos who instilled in her a very basic value: Love Thy Neighbor. Raised on the San Manuel reservation surrounded by a culture deeply entrenched with a strong sense of community, Alaina grew up with values that taught her to respect her elders and learn from them, respect others and lend a helping hand, and never forgetting where you come from. As a single mother, Alaina raised her three children, Laurena, Trevor and Nathan, in the city of Highland passing on the values that where instilled in her as a child ensuring her children grew up with an appreciation for what they have in their lives as well as a strong work ethic. Alaina believes that our young people need to be encouraged and inspired. Alaina affirms, "They need to know that we care and have not forgotten them and that they matter. Law enforcement officers also need to know that we support and respect their dedication for their services in keeping us safe." Leading by example, she is an active member of various local organizations in different areas of our community. She is resolute in continuing her support efforts as long as she is able. Other Honorees include: Kim & Tommy Morrow with the Hometown Media Heroes Award, Dr. Tomás D. Morales with the Community Education Champion Award, SB Strong First Responders with the Ramos Family Spirit of Compassion Award, the Black Chamber of Commerce Inland Empire & the Greater Riverside Hispanic Chamber of Commerce with the Community Chamber Champions Award, Dr. Dale Marsden & Dr. Harold Vollkommer with the Public Education Dynamic Duo Award, Caliber Collision with the Community Business Leader of the Year Award, Senator Connie Leyva with the Public Service Champion Award and Manal Iskander with the Community Champion Award. Time for Change Foundation's 13th Annual Star Studded Awards Gala will take place on Friday April 15, 2016 at the DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton in Ontario, CA from 6 to 9 p.m. To support TFCF's efforts to help homeless women and children become self-sufficient, thriving members of society you can become a sponsor, purchase an ad in the event program book or purchase a Gala ticket.
