San Bernardino Public Library Upgrades

SAN BERNARDINO>> Some 24 new computers offering Internet access are now available for free public use at the Cosand Computer Learning Center in the Norman Feldheym Central Library of the San Bernardino Public Library at 555 W. Sixth St. in San Bernardino. “We’re very pleased to offer our patrons free access to the Internet and other software, including word processing to write resumes, papers and communicate with their families,” said Library Director Ed Erjavek. “These new computers are the first step in replacing public computers throughout our library system. We hope they help to bridge the “digital divide” - meaning those who have access to current technology and those who don’t – in our community.” Patrons need only a library card and pay only for printing. The library’s technology upgrade was made possible by a donation of hardware, including both servers and desktops, of some $306,000 by the San Bernardino City Library Foundation, Inc. “It was a truly extraordinary that the Library Foundation funded this project that we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to fund from our regular budget,” Erjavek said. “This was certainly a case of the Library Foundation stepping up to fill a great need in the community for the benefit of San Bernardino’s residents.” Next steps in the technology upgrade include replacing 12 more computers offering Internet for the public on Feldheym ‘s main floor, replacing the public computers in the Jack Hill Lifelong Learning Center, and then moving on to replace the public computers at the Dorothy Inghram, Howard Rowe and Paul Villaseñor Branch Libraries. The Cosand Computer Learning Center hours are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 5:30 p.m.
