As you may have already noticed from the new blue signs on the corner of Barton and Mt. Vernon Ave., Grand Terrace will be home to a new brand of frozen yogurt shops, named Chillz Frozen Yogurt. The new Chillz shop is owned by three partners: husband and wife Bryan and Jaimie Young and Dan Caldwell, a good friend to both Bryan and Jaimie. “My favorite part of opening the new shop is the excitement that it’s going to bring to Grand Terrace,” says Bryan, who is currently a risk manager for a Fortune 500 company. “There is frenzy in town for the opening.” Bryan and Jaimie had first begun discussing opening a business or restaurant in October of 2013. Eventually Dan had an idea that all three of them go in on a new brand of frozen yogurt shops to open here in the Inland Empire. None of the owners had to think long before deciding that Grand Terrace was the city they wanted to open up their first shop in. “There isn’t really anywhere in Grand Terrace to go for dessert,” says Bryan. “We also decided to serve coffee, since there is nowhere is Grand Terrace to go for that right now either.” All three owners have been actively involved in the Grand Terrace community. Dan co-founded TapouT here in Grand Terrace. “I lived in Grand Terrace years ago, but all of my kids’ involvement is in this city. I wouldn’t want to put it anywhere else but here,” says Jaimie Young. “I love working with the public and the tight-knit community.” The three had originally hoped to open up the shop in the spring time, but the grand opening was delayed by a few kinks along the process. Now, the grand opening will be held July 12th at 11 a.m. and residents are invited to bring their families to enjoy the free face painting, dunk tank, bouncy house, and live penguins available all day long. Although this Chillz location is the first shop of its name to open, the three owners hope to expand into different locations across the Inland Empire. “The industry is still growing,” says Bryan. “We are very excited to be able to offer this to the city and thank everybody for their support and their anticipation for the opening,” says Bryan.
