REDLANDS>> Beginning Monday, March 27, artists from all over the United States, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan will flock to Southern California to attend Crafton Hills College Art Festival. This year's event, "Art: Eyes on Healing" will take place at the San Bernardino Community College District offices at 114 S. Del Rosa Dr. in San Bernardino, California. The festival's topic, "Art: Eyes on Healing" is an exploration of the relationship between voice and medicine. Artists and practitioners are encouraged to meet and find common ground in their passion for healing. The festival will feature workshops, lectures, panels, and media productions, the latter of which will be demonstrated at both Crafton Hills College and the San Bernardino Community College District Office. Workshops will cover topics such as "Bringing a Balance into Daily Life", "Symbolic Language of Art, Rituals, and Healing", and "Parallels: Medicine + Art". Guest lecturers will include Takeshi Kaneumura, Mikio Kawasaki, and Crafton Hills College Professor Susana de la Peña, who will speak on topics such as bringing balance to your daily life, symbolic language, medicine and art, and the philosophy of healing and art. Professor Susana de la Peña will lecture on the stories of women and their journey to healing. "This is an exclusive look into the Japanese moxibustion as an alternative healing practice that has inherent artistic expression, both in the philosophy as well as in the practice," Fine Arts Department Chair Snezana Petrovic said. "This tradition resonates within the cultures across the globe in a variety of expressions as healing, divination, cooking and arts, while using the plant that grows as a weed in variety of locations." The festival will culminate on Friday, March 31, after an art walk featuring a culmination of art pieces produced by artists, faculty and students.
