GRAND TERRACE>> Becky Giroux, County Analyst for the Department of Aging and Adult Services and a Grand Terrace resident of nearly 30 years, is running for the Grand Terrace City Council. “I am running for City Council to ensure Grand Terrace residents have the opportunity to be heard; live in a clean environment, live safe and be able to succeed and thrive,” Giroux said. She earned her bachelors from the University of Phoenix in Business Administration and a master’s in public administration. She has worked for the County of San Bernardino Human Services for more than twenty years and said it is time for her to put her years of experience and education to work for the citizens of Grand Terrace. Giroux said if elected to city council, her priorities include promoting a thriving economy by getting rid of older building and inviting businesses in to provide services to residents, collaborate with surrounding cities for joint business opportunities and to strengthen the interest of residents by ensuring they have the opportunity to be heard and for the city to be transparent in the decision-making process. While working for the county, she said she has received a lot of experience by working for Child Protective Services, Child Support Services. While working for Child Support Services, she wrote policies and procedure to be sure the correct steps were being taken. She said the San Bernardino County’s Family Caregiver Support Program currently has two vendors who provide family support for those who need to take care of their loved ones. “We need to bring that to the local city level,” she said. “I believe it is the responsibility of city council to facilitate the growth and development of our youth who are our future leaders of Grand Terrace." As a county analyst, Giroux said she sees that seniors are in need of family support and there are many children of seniors who are taking care of their parents. "There are a lot more programs that Grand Terrace can assist the seniors with and the families that are taking care of their parents," she said. To add to her involvement with the city, Giroux said she has supported responsible development that uses green technology and fits the neighborhood. She is also the second vice president of the Grand Terrace Lions Club where she raises funds at bingo games, 5k walk/run, the Freedom Wall and Habitat for Humanity. Giroux takes her faith serious and said God helps guide her to make decisions based on principle rather than response and raising her family in Grand Terrace has impacted her vision for the city. “My grandchildren are living in Grand Terrace so it is very important to me that Grand Terrace remain a safe place to learn, grow and prosper.” Last year, her family was a victim to a residential burglary in which all her jewelry she had of 35 years was stolen along with other items. “We felt completely violated,” she said. “My commitment to the citizens of Grand Terrace is to teach the neighbors how to protect each other.” As a former Sheriff Service Specialist for the County of San Bernardino Sherrif’s Department, Giroux helped neighborhoods set up the Neighborhood Watch Program and ensured that it works well. “We live in the 21st century,” she said. The digital age. The age of technology. Let’s fight crime smarter, not just harder. I am committed to helping our city use more technology to fight crime. It helps the Sheriff’s exponentially and is many times less expensive than adding another deputy.” She said building a city that works for everyone begins with engaging buy in. “I cannot stand alone in this effort,” Giroux said. "We need our families, seniors and especially our youth to buy into a safe and healthy Grand Terrace." Paid for by Becky Giroux.
