The event will be held at Denny`s Restaurant, located at 160 W. Valley Blvd Colton, CA 92324. The community will have the opportunity to hear Alejandre speak on literacy in California, as well as throughout the County of San Bernardino. In a message written by Alejandre and posted on the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools website, Alejandre states there is positive news in the results for San Bernardino County students who completed the second year of state testing. According to data recently released by the California Department of Education, all seven grade levels taking both the English language arts/literacy and mathematics portions of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress showed improvement. In his message, he said overall in state testing, county students in grades 3-8 and 11 improved four percentage points in English language arts/literacy and three percentage points in math. In English language arts/literacy, 41 percent of county students met or exceeded the state standards, while in math, 28 percent were at or above the state standards. Alejandre was the first Hispanic elected San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools in its 163-year history. He has more than 25 years of experience in education in San Bernardino County, where he has lived his entire life. He is passionate and committed to working collectively with education leaders, staff, community partners and parents to provide all students with equal access to high-quality education and an enriching learning experience. In addition to his career in public education, Alejandre has served in the United States Air Force for more than 29 years as a lieutenant colonel. He lives with his wife, Barbara and they have a son and two daughters. Come out and enjoy lunch with Alejandre and other community members and leaders.
